Tate had 397 all-purpose yards for the Tar Heels in their win over McNeese State. Tate had a 82-yard punt return for a touchdown and also a 57-yard catch for another touchdown.
Big 12 Player of the Week: Missouri LB Sean Weatherspoon
Weatherspoon had a good game with a 30-yard TD after ripping the ball from Illinois' running back in the fourth quarter. The TD sealed the win for the Tigers.
Big East Player of the Week: Connecticut RB Donald Brown
Brown had four TDs and 146 yards to propel the Huskies to a 35-3 victory over Hofstra.
Big 10 Player of the Week: Penn State RB Evan Royster
Royster scored 3 TDs to help Penn State crush Coastal Carolina 66-10.
Conference USA Player of the Week: East Carolina WR T.J. Lee
Lee broke a Virginia Tech punt and recovered the ball and ran it into the end zone to give the Pirates a 27-22 lead in the fourth quarter which they never surrendered.
MAC Player of the Week: Bowling Green FB Jimmy Scheidler
Scheidler caught two TD passes to help the Falcons upset Pittsburgh 27-17 on the road.
Mountain West Player of the Week: Utah K Louie Sakoda
Sakoda kicked four FGs to help Utah upset Michigan on Saturday. Sakoda's longest FG in the game was 53 yards.
Pac-10 Player of the Week: Stanford RB Toby Gerhart
Gerhart ran for 147 yards and two TDs to help Stanford beat Oregon State. Gerhart was unstoppable and the OSU defenders could not tackle him and were just bouncing off of him.
SEC Player of the Week: LSU RB Charles Scott
Scott ran for 160 yards and two TDs to help LSU beat Appalchian State 41-13.
Sun Belt Player of the Week: Arkansas State K Josh Arauco
Arauco kicked four FGs to help the Red Wolves upset Texas A&M 18-14.
WAC Player of the Week: Louisiana Tech RB Patrick Jackson
Jackson led the way for the huge upset over Mississippi State 22-14 with two TDs.
Biggest Upset of the Week: Arkansas State 18 Texas A&M 14
There were a few upsets this week but this one stunned me the most. I would never have expected A&M to lose their home opener to a Sun Belt team.
